Golden Forest Collection (2022/25)

My use of painted tape began in 2019 during the Portfolio Preparation course at the Glasgow School of Art. Masking tape was used as bordering tape to secure paper, at the end of painting the border tape was peeled away. This unusual material became a core interest. So I created several rolls of tape, purposely painted with select colours and brushstrokes. Initially, I used the tape in a horizontal direction to create a landscape form, then later in a vertical direction to imply tree forms. Through the following collections, the application of the background inks and colours used has developed. This work has been produced on my own self-made surfaces. This work is finished with a clear resin coating. I’ve been using resin as an alternative to varnish for nearly a decade.
