Japanese Forest Collection

Gansai Watercolour paintings on board. This collection of paintings were inspired by my travel around Japan in the winter of 2015, which I started working on in the early days of Department A in 2019. It began as a response and solution to injury after a scaffolding incident left me unable to paint. I had to find a solution to create and that became working with watercolour. It was easier to mix with smaller, lighter brushes. Working on smaller surfaces was easier to handle. Unable to paint in my previous ways I developed a scratch method to remove the watercolour with various blades to create the trees. This method was explored through several collections over the next 6yrs.
